I have never had a kid refuse to eat like this before. Originally we thought is was funny. After many attempts at sneaking green beans into her mouth I thought I had just lost her trust. But after a few days the tight closed mouth got worse (she would not eat any pureed food. She would refuse to eat and then cry until I nursed her. The only stuff I could get her to eat were cheerios and fruit puffs (basically cheerios). So I thought, 7 months, no teeth (other kids had teeth by 5 months), I thought she must be teething. Although it is probable that she is starting to teethe I do not believe that was the eating issue. Yesterday we began to give her non-pureed food and she loved it (Ben gave her a french fry and she was all over it).
I have never had a kid move to "real" food this young before, I could not believe she was ready. After all I have only been feeding her food for a little over a month. She really wants to feed herself, and I guess after I let her have a go at it with the fruit puffs and cheerios for a weeks she thought she was done with the pureed stuff. Only problem now is giving her pieces that a big enough to pick up, but small enough so she will not choke.

Janis found this AWESOME thing for me when I was at that point with Ty. It's like a mesh sack on the end of a ring. You put the food in the little mesh sack and then put the ring on it and the baby holds the ring and munches on the mesh. As they bite it breaks the food up into teeny pieces so that it eventually comes through the mesh and they eat it! I hope that wasn't too confusing. I'm sure it's at walmart or target. Best investment ever!
